Can You Craft A Snowball Launcher?
Who doesn’t love to throw snowballs? Well what if we created a SNOWBALL LAUNCHER?!?
Are you up for the challenge? Let's design a snowball launcher! How many can you catapult at a time?
What you need per group...
- Can You Craft A Snowball Launcher? Creator Sheet
- Popsicle Sticks
- Spoons
- Rubber Bands
- Small Cups
- Toilet paper, or Paper Towel Rolls (empty)
- Scissors
- Tape/Glue
- Cotton Balls (snow)
- Ruler
What you need to do...
- Start by breaking students up into groups of three or solo if distance/virtual learning.
- Have students create a team name.
- Tell students that the objective of this challenge is to engineer a Snowball Launcher
- Students will begin brainstorming the way they want their Snowball Launcher designed, students will create a sketch.
- Keep in mind the following requirements:
- Cotton Ball must not fall off while loading
- We want Distance on our Cotton Ball
- Once the sketch is completed, students will gather the materials that they will use for the design.
- Students get to choose between:
- Popsicle Sticks
- Spoons
- Rubber Bands
- Small Cups
- Toilet paper, or Paper Towel Rolls (empty)
- Students will then assemble the Snowball Launcher
- Once completed students will then take a cotton ball or two and see how far they can launch it!
- Make any changes after the first round, and make notes on the Creator Sheet on the distance and the changes made.
